Behind the Scenes of a Skate Video

I had a lot of fun making this video. The sequence basically shows everything that happens when we're not landing tricks. There's always so much extra footage from the mistakes and "bloopers," so I decided this footage needed to be put into a montage to show what really happens in the making of a skate video.

The video starts with a clip of me unsuccessfully trying to jump off a roof, and ends with me landing the jump off the roof. I sandwiched the video with these shots to show that not all tricks are first try, there's usually a lot of wipeouts and goofy moments before the make is captured.

Halloween Junkyard Skate Session

I made this video on Halloween 2009. For the making of this video I searched through my basement for junk that i could try to skate on.

It starts with jump cuts of our Halloween decorations. A long shot of the doorway and its decorations, a close up of the spooky halloween cat, then a pan of the pumpkin lights followed by a track of the pumpkin lights. Afterwards, a jump cut between a close up of the pumpkin lights and a close up of an actual pumpkin. Short fade, then jump cuts of some skeleton decorations, finishing with a tilt up from the toes to the head of the skeleton hanging on my front door. Many of the shots were shot with a fisheye lens.

Obama's 2009 Education Speech Video Response

This video was my entry In a national contest showing the importance of education, where the contestants submitted video responses to Obama's education speech in September 2009.

For my video, I wanted to create a metaphor between skateboarding and education, showing how similar they really are. At the beginning I broke up the definition of the word "education" into three sections, and then throughout the video showed how each section of the definition pertains to skateboarding.
